The GIBRALTAR EY6487-G is a nitride coated die steel ejector sleeve designed for die mold and injection mold tooling applications. The sleeve features a 0.5 inch inside diameter and a 0.6875 inch outside diameter, with an overall length of 4 inches. The nitride coating provides a hardened surface layer that resists wear and galling under the repeated cycling loads common in production mold environments. The head measures 0.9375 inches in diameter and 0.25 inches in height, with a 45-degree chamfer and a 0.046875 inch chamfer length. A 0.03125 inch corner radius is machined at the base transition. This component is installed by toolmakers and mold maintenance technicians during mold build or repair operations.
Ejector sleeves are used in plastic injection molds and die casting tooling to eject cylindrical cores or pins cleanly from the mold cavity. The EY6487-G is suited for applications where a round or tubular part feature requires a sleeve-style ejector rather than a flat ejector pin. Typical installation scenarios include production injection mold decks in both short-run prototype shops and high-cycle production environments. The nitride surface treatment makes this sleeve appropriate for abrasive or high-cycle applications where an untreated steel component would show premature wear.
Designed as a standard die mold ejector sleeve for use in injection mold and die casting tooling where a 0.5 inch inside diameter sleeve-style ejector is specified.
Ejector sleeves are installed by toolmakers or mold technicians during mold assembly or component replacement. Always de-energize the press and fully open and lock out the mold before removing or installing ejector components. Verify bore alignment between the ejector retainer plate and the core pin before seating the sleeve to prevent binding during operation. Consult the mold design drawings for proper orientation of the head recess pocket depth to ensure flush or correct seating of the sleeve head.
