The GIBRALTAR BW8649-G is a die mold sprue bushing designed for injection molding and die casting tooling applications. It provides the entry point through which molten material flows into the mold cavity. Machined from steel for durability under repeated thermal and pressure cycling, this bushing features a 0.75 inch shank diameter, a 2 inch head diameter, and an overall length of 2.281 inches (2-9/32 inches). The 5/32 inch hole diameter and 3/16 inch cavity depth are sized for precise flow control. This part is handled and installed by tool and die makers and mold technicians.
This sprue bushing fits into mold bases and die tooling assemblies where a controlled sprue inlet is required. It belongs to the Series U family of Gibraltar sprue bushings. Typical applications include plastic injection molds and die casting setups in industrial manufacturing environments. The 1/2 inch corner radius and 7/8 inch head height accommodate standard mold plate configurations. This component is suited for both new tooling builds and replacement of worn or damaged sprue bushings in existing mold assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sprue bushing for die mold tooling assemblies requiring a 0.75 inch shank diameter Series U configuration.
Installation is performed by qualified tool and die makers or mold technicians. Ensure the mold is fully cooled, de-pressurized, and locked out before removing or installing any sprue bushing. The shank bore in the mold plate should be clean and free of debris to ensure proper seating and alignment. Verify hole diameter and cavity depth compatibility with the existing runner and sprue puller before installation.
