The GIBRALTAR 428-84652 is a horizontal drill press vise designed for secure workpiece clamping during drilling operations on bench-top and floor-standing drill presses. It features an 8-inch jaw width with an 8-inch jaw opening capacity and a 2-inch throat depth, giving operators the clearance needed to clamp a wide range of stock sizes. The stationary base keeps the vise firmly positioned on the drill press table without swivel movement. Constructed from cast iron, the body resists deflection under clamping load. Overall length is 15-7/16 inches and overall height is 3-9/16 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and general fabricators install this vise in production and job-shop environments.
This vise suits horizontal drilling applications where a fixed, non-rotating base is preferred. The 8-inch jaw opening accommodates a broad range of part widths, making it appropriate for both light-production runs and one-off setups in metal fabrication, woodworking shops, and general machine shops. The standard spindle operation type means no quick-release or rapid-traverse mechanism is required, keeping the design straightforward for everyday drilling tasks. The cast iron construction handles the repetitive clamping forces typical in production drilling without distortion.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit addition for standard drill press tables accepting horizontal vise mounting in machine shop and fabrication applications.
Installation is performed by machinists or millwrights. Before mounting, power down and lock out the drill press in accordance with OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the vise to the drill press table using appropriate T-slot bolts or clamp sets matched to the table slot dimensions. Verify the vise jaw face is square to the spindle axis before tightening fasteners to prevent skewed drilling.
