The GIBRALTAR 42201G is a heavy hex jam nut threaded to the 1/4-20 UNC standard with a right-hand thread direction. Machined from alloy steel and finished in black oxide, this nut is designed for applications requiring a low-profile locking element that resists loosening under vibration or dynamic loads. At 0.5 inches across the flats and approximately 0.172 inches high, the heavy hex profile provides more wrench engagement than a standard hex jam nut. Trade professionals use it as a locknut paired with a full hex nut or to secure adjustable assemblies in mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing support applications.
This jam nut is suited for light-to-medium duty fastening tasks across residential and commercial trade work. It fits standard 1/4-20 UNC threaded rod, bolts, and studs commonly used in equipment mounting, pipe hanger assemblies, and ductwork support hardware. The black oxide finish provides mild corrosion resistance and reduces light reflection in finished installations. It does not meet military specifications.
Designed for use with 1/4-20 UNC right-hand threaded rod, bolts, and studs in standard mechanical and trade-support fastening applications.
Jam nuts are typically installed by trade professionals during equipment mounting and support assembly work. Thread the jam nut onto the fastener and tighten it against a second nut or fixed surface using an appropriately sized wrench — do not use pliers or adjustable tools that may round the hex flats. Ensure the mating threads are clean and free of debris before installation. Follow applicable mechanical and structural codes for the specific application.
