The GIBRALTAR 40855G is an unequal double threaded stud with a 5/8-11 thread size and an overall length of 5.5 inches. This stud features two threaded ends of different lengths — a long thread of 2 inches and a short thread of 0.88 inches — with an unthreaded center shank. Manufactured from carbon steel with a black oxide finish, the 40855G is built for mechanical fastening applications where a permanent or semi-permanent threaded connection is required from both sides of an assembly. Material Grade 5 construction provides reliable tensile strength for demanding industrial and trade environments. Licensed trades and maintenance professionals working with structural or mechanical assemblies are the primary installers.
The 40855G is suited for use in industrial equipment, machinery, and structural assemblies where an unequal double threaded stud is needed to join components on either side of a tapped hole or insert. The asymmetric thread lengths allow one end to be permanently set into a base material while the opposite end accepts a nut or mating component. This makes it appropriate for situations where one side of the connection must remain fixed while the other requires removable attachment. Applications span general manufacturing, maintenance, and fabrication work across commercial and industrial settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install unequal double threaded stud for mechanical assemblies requiring a 5/8-11 thread and 5.5 inch overall length with Grade 5 carbon steel construction.
Installation is typically performed by millwrights, maintenance technicians, or mechanical trades using appropriately rated tapping tools and torque wrenches calibrated for the fastener grade. De-energize and lock out all equipment before removing or installing threaded fasteners in powered machinery. Apply thread-locking compound or anti-seize as appropriate for the service environment. Never use impact tools on the unthreaded shank, as this can damage the thread engagement in the base material.
