The GIBRALTAR 40353G is an unequal double threaded stud with a 1/4-20 thread size and a 3-inch overall length. Double threaded studs feature threading on both ends with an unthreaded shank in the middle, allowing secure fastening into a tapped hole on one end while accepting a nut or threaded fitting on the other. This stud uses a long thread of 1.5 inches and a short thread of 0.375 inches, giving each end a distinct engagement depth for applications where differential clamping or varied thread engagement is required. Constructed from Grade 5 carbon steel with a black oxide finish, it provides moderate corrosion resistance and a consistent surface hardness suited for mechanical and structural fastening tasks.
This stud is well suited for light industrial, mechanical, and general maintenance applications where a permanent or semi-permanent threaded anchor point is needed. The unequal thread lengths make it a practical choice when one end must engage deeper into a base material while the other end accepts hardware at a shorter projection. It is commonly used by millwrights, maintenance technicians, and general contractors working with metal fabrications, equipment mounting, and fixture assembly. The black oxide finish is compatible with light oil treatments for additional protection in indoor environments.
Designed as a standard 1/4-20 unequal double threaded stud for use in general mechanical and industrial fastening applications requiring inch-series threaded components.
Installation is typically performed by millwrights, maintenance technicians, or general mechanics using standard hand tools and thread gauges. The short thread end is generally driven into a pre-tapped hole using a stud driver or double-nut method; avoid over-torquing, which can strip threads or shear the stud. Ensure the receiving tapped hole is clean and free of debris before installation. Apply a thread-locking compound or anti-seize as required by the application.
