The GIBRALTAR 34056 is a locking knob handle plunger with a knobless threaded stud configuration, designed for use in indexing, positioning, and clamping applications on machinery, fixtures, and tooling setups. The plunger features a 3/8-16 external thread with a 0.75-inch thread length, a maximum plunger diameter of 0.186 inches, and a spring end force range of 0.75 pounds initial to 4 pounds final. A built-in locking element holds the plunger in the retracted position, allowing hands-free operation during part loading or adjustment. This type of component is typically installed by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics.
The 34056 is suited for use in light industrial and manufacturing environments where repeatable positioning and controlled spring force are required. Typical applications include jigs, fixtures, machine guards, and panel assemblies that require a retractable and lockable locating pin. The knobless threaded stud design allows the plunger to be mounted flush or with a custom knob added by the installer. The 5/16-18 stud thread provides the mounting interface, while the 3/8-16 body thread engages the mounting plate or housing.
Designed as a standard locking plunger replacement or new-install component for industrial fixtures, jigs, and machine assemblies using 3/8-16 threaded mounting holes with a knobless stud configuration.
Installation is performed by threading the plunger body into a 3/8-16 tapped hole in the mounting panel or housing to the desired depth. Secure the position using a jam nut against the panel face if retention under vibration is required. Ensure the plunger bore is free of debris and the locking mechanism moves freely before putting the assembly into service. A qualified mechanic or machine technician should verify spring travel and locking function after installation.
