The GENESIS CABLE 46071004 is a 16 AWG, 4-conductor solid FPLP-rated fire alarm cable supplied on a 1,000-foot reel in red jacketing. FPLP designates a plenum-rated construction, meaning the cable meets the low-smoke, flame-spread requirements of NFPA 72 and the NEC for installation in air-handling spaces and plenum ceilings. The solid conductor geometry makes this cable well suited for conventional fire alarm initiating and signaling circuits where a stable, low-resistance connection is required over long runs. Fire alarm technicians and low-voltage electricians are the primary installers of this product.
This cable is used in commercial and institutional fire alarm systems where plenum-rated wiring is required by the authority having jurisdiction. Typical applications include initiating device circuits, notification appliance circuits, and signaling line circuits in office buildings, schools, hospitals, and other facilities where ductwork or open plenum ceilings are present. The red jacket follows the industry convention for fire alarm wiring, aiding circuit identification during installation and inspection. The 1,000-foot reel quantity suits larger new-construction or retrofit projects.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit cable for conventional and addressable fire alarm control panel circuits requiring FPLP-rated 16 AWG 4-conductor wiring.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire alarm technician or low-voltage electrician in accordance with NFPA 72, NEC Article 760, and all applicable local codes. De-energize and disconnect the fire alarm control panel before making any wiring connections. Plenum-rated cable must be used whenever the raceway or cable pathway passes through an air-handling plenum as defined by the authority having jurisdiction. Do not splice conductors inside conduit bodies or junction boxes without a listed wire connector and proper documentation for the circuit record.
