The GEARWRENCH 84318N is a 6-point impact socket designed for use with 3/8 inch drive impact wrenches and ratchets. Sized at 17mm, it is machined from chromium-molybdenum steel and finished in black oxide for corrosion resistance. The overall length is 1.181 inches, placing it in the standard-length category. Off-corner loading geometry reduces stress concentration on fastener flats, helping prevent rounding under high-torque impact use. High-visibility laser-etched markings provide fast size identification in the field, with secondary hard-stamped markings as a backup. Licensed technicians and mechanics will find this socket meets ASME B107.33M standards for impact socket performance and dimensional consistency.
This socket is intended for metric fastener applications in automotive, heavy equipment, and general mechanical service environments. The 3/8 inch drive size suits mid-range torque applications where a 1/2 inch drive would be excessive and a 1/4 inch drive would be insufficient. Standard length makes it appropriate for most open-access fastener locations. It is not insulated and is not rated as non-sparking, so it is suited for conventional mechanical service rather than electrical or hazardous-environment work.
Designed as a standard-length 3/8 inch drive impact socket compatible with 3/8 inch drive impact wrenches, air ratchets, and hand ratchets used on 17mm metric fasteners.
This socket is installed and removed by hand onto any 3/8 inch square drive tool. Always confirm the socket is fully seated on the drive before applying torque. Do not use impact sockets on torque-sensitive fasteners without a calibrated torque wrench or torque stick. Inspect the socket for cracks or deformation before each use and remove it from service if damage is found.
