The GATOR 4247 is a 50-grit emery cloth sheet designed for removing rust, oxidation, and surface contamination from ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel, iron, aluminum, brass, and copper. Each sheet measures 9 inches wide by 11 inches long and is constructed on a J-weight cloth backing. A resin bond coating holds the abrasive grain, delivering longer service life compared to standard glue-bond sandpaper. Suited for both hand sanding and machine sanding applications, this emery cloth is a standard consumable for metal prep work across HVAC, plumbing, and general mechanical trades. Each box contains 25 sheets.
This emery cloth is well suited to trade applications where metal surfaces require cleaning or preparation before fitting, brazing, soldering, or coating. Typical uses include cleaning copper pipe and fittings before soldering, deburring steel components, and removing light corrosion from aluminum or brass parts. The 9 by 11 inch sheet size works with standard hand-sanding blocks and can be cut down for smaller detail work or wrapped for use in drum and orbital sanders where emery cloth is acceptable.
Designed for use on steel, iron, aluminum, brass, and copper surfaces. Suitable for hand sanding and machine sanding setups that accept standard sheet abrasives.
Emery cloth is a consumable abrasive — no installation required. When using for pipe or fitting prep, ensure the workpiece is secure and wear appropriate eye and hand protection. Discard sheets when the abrasive surface becomes loaded or glazed, as worn emery cloth can score soft metals unevenly. When used ahead of soldering or brazing, follow applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC for surface prep requirements.
