The GARDNER SPRING V40C is a galvanized steel extension spring designed for light-duty tension applications across mechanical, HVAC, and industrial equipment. It has an outside diameter of 0.5 inches, a wire diameter of 0.0625 inches, and an overall free length of 8 inches. Under load, it extends to a maximum of 12.95 inches. The spring rate is 2.05 lb/in, with an initial tension of 4.6 lb and a maximum work load of 18.67 lb. The zinc-plated, galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance in typical indoor service environments. Sold in a package of 3 pieces.
This extension spring is suited for residential and light commercial equipment where a small-diameter, moderate-load tension spring is required. Common applications include door assemblies, damper linkages, equipment latches, and mechanical return mechanisms found in HVAC systems, appliances, and general trade equipment. It is installed wherever a controlled return force or tension load is needed along a linear axis.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement extension spring for mechanical assemblies requiring a 0.5 inches OD, 8 inches free-length tension spring with an 18.67 lb maximum work load rating.
Extension springs should be installed by qualified mechanical or HVAC technicians familiar with tension-spring applications. Always de-energize and relieve any stored mechanical tension in the assembly before removing the existing spring. Use appropriate spring hooks or installation tools to seat the spring ends without overstretching beyond the 12.95 inches maximum extended length. Exceeding the maximum extended length can permanently deform the spring and reduce service life.
