The GARDNER BENDER MDI-150Y is a 1 inch by 0.5 inch insulated cable staple designed to secure electrical cable while protecting wire insulation during and after installation. The staple body is formed from 12-gauge carbon steel and finished with a rust inhibitor applied during tumble deburring. The insulating saddle is a hot melt bonded PVC rated at 250 volts per millimeter of dielectric strength, per ETL test standard 525777. The PVC collar is color coded by size and application, giving installers a fast visual confirmation of correct staple selection. This staple ships 100 units per box.
The MDI-150Y is intended for residential and light commercial electrical rough-in work where cable must be secured to framing, joists, or other structural members. Electricians use it to fasten NM-B, coaxial, or similarly sized cable runs while minimizing risk of nicking insulation during drive. The color-coded PVC insulator also serves as a visual indicator that insulation integrity has been maintained at each fastening point, reducing short-circuit risk from staple contact with the conductor sheath.
Designed as an OEM-style insulated cable staple for securing appropriately sized electrical cable in residential and light commercial wiring applications.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC requirements for cable support and securing intervals. Staples should be driven with a hammer or appropriate staple driver without over-driving, as crushing the PVC saddle can damage cable insulation. Always de-energize circuits in the work area before fastening cable near existing wiring. Inspect each staple after driving to confirm the PVC collar remains intact and centered over the cable.
