The FROST KING C22CP is a polyethylene foam backer rod used to fill gaps and joints before applying caulk or sealant. It creates a backing surface that controls sealant depth, promotes proper joint geometry, and prevents three-sided adhesion, which can cause premature sealant failure. Licensed contractors, weatherization specialists, and experienced DIYers use backer rod in both interior and exterior sealing applications. At 1.527 pounds, this is a practical single-unit supply suited for moderate-volume sealing work on windows, doors, expansion joints, and masonry gaps.
Poly foam backer rod is a standard pre-caulking material used across residential and light commercial construction. It is commonly installed in window and door perimeter joints, concrete expansion joints, sill plate gaps, and other linear openings before the finish sealant is applied. The foam compresses into the joint to fill void space, leaving the correct sealant thickness at the face of the joint. This approach extends sealant service life and reduces the volume of caulk required per linear foot.
Designed as a standard pre-caulking backer rod for use in linear gaps and joints prior to sealant application in residential and light commercial weatherization and construction work.
Backer rod is typically installed by weatherization contractors, general contractors, or skilled tradespeople prior to finish caulking. Clean and dry the joint thoroughly before inserting the rod. Use a blunt tool or roller to press the rod to the correct depth without puncturing the foam surface. Apply sealant over the seated backer rod per the sealant manufacturer and applicable building code requirements.
