The FOWLER 52-720-000-0 is a nickel surface finish comparator set used to visually and tactilely evaluate machined surface roughness on manufactured parts. The kit includes 30 specimens covering a range from 2 to 492.126 micro inches (AA), with corresponding metric values from 0.05 to 12.5 micrometers. Machinists, quality control technicians, and inspection personnel use this comparator to verify that finished surfaces meet drawing callouts and process tolerances without requiring electronic instrumentation. The set ships with an instructions sheet and a protective carrying case.
This comparator set is suited for use in machine shops, manufacturing cells, and inspection departments handling flat lapping, grinding, horizontal milling, reaming, turning, and vertical milling operations. It provides a direct physical reference for both AA micro inch and micrometer roughness scales, making it practical for shops that work with drawings specifying either unit system. The nickel construction of the specimens resists corrosion and wear during regular handling on the shop floor.
Designed as a general-purpose surface finish reference tool for machining and inspection applications involving flat lapping, grinding, horizontal milling, reaming, turning, and vertical milling processes.
No installation is required for this comparator set. Store specimens in the included case to prevent surface contamination or damage that could compromise accuracy. Handle specimens by the edges to avoid transferring oils or debris to the reference surfaces. Periodically clean specimens per the included instructions to maintain reliable comparison results.
