The FOWLER 52-585-015-0 is a magnetic base indicator positioner holder designed for use with dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measuring instruments in machine shop and inspection environments. The unit features a flexible arm that allows the operator to position the indicator at virtually any angle, and a magnetic base that generates 85 pounds of pull force to hold firmly to ferrous machine surfaces such as mill tables, lathe beds, and surface plates. Fine adjustment capability is built in, allowing small, precise movements of the indicator tip without repositioning the entire arm. The base stands 2.5 inches tall and is included with the holder. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and metrology personnel are the primary installers and users.
This indicator holder is suited for use on CNC machining centers, manual mills, lathes, grinders, and surface plates in both production and toolroom settings. It is used when tramming a head, indicating a part into a vise or chuck, checking runout, or verifying surface geometry. The magnetic base mounts directly to any clean, flat ferrous surface. The flexible arm accommodates a wide range of positioning requirements without the need for additional adapters in most standard setups.
Designed as a standard magnetic base indicator holder compatible with dial indicators and test indicators that use a standard dovetail or stem mounting in typical machine shop and metrology applications.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians and requires no special tools beyond the indicator being mounted. Before engaging the magnetic base, confirm the mounting surface is clean, flat, and free of chips or coolant that could reduce holding force. Disengage the magnetic base by switching it to the off position before repositioning on live machinery. Do not rely on the magnetic base as the sole means of securing measuring equipment on surfaces subject to vibration without verifying adequate holding force for the application.
