The FOWLER 52-563-777 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for high-precision measurement in machining, inspection, and metrology applications. It reads a maximum of 0.008 inches of travel with a graduation of 0.0001 inches per division and a stated accuracy of 0.00015 inches. The 0-5-0 bidirectional dial face pairs with a jeweled movement to deliver smooth, repeatable needle response. The 1.5-inch white dial provides clear readability under shop lighting. A clamp-mount system and included dovetail hardware make this indicator compatible with standard magnetic bases and indicator holders used throughout the trade.
This indicator is suited for surface plate inspection, lathe and mill setup, fixture alignment, and runout checks on rotating components. The horizontal contact point orientation makes it well-suited for side-approach measurements where a standard plunger-style indicator cannot reach. The contact point extends 0.6 inches with a ball diameter of 0.08 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, quality control technicians, and precision measurement professionals are the primary users. The included molded case keeps the instrument protected between setups.
Designed to seat in standard dovetail-style indicator holders and magnetic base clamp systems commonly used with horizontal dial test indicators. Verify dovetail dimension compatibility with your existing holder before installation.
Dial test indicators are installed by metrology technicians and precision machinists using magnetic base holders, surface gauge arms, or dedicated fixture mounts. Secure the dovetail clamp snugly before zeroing the indicator - loose mounting introduces cosine error and inconsistent readings. Ensure the contact point contacts the workpiece at the correct angle of deflection for the indicator style; excessive angular offset reduces accuracy. Handle the jeweled movement carefully and avoid dropping or shocking the instrument, as jeweled bearings are susceptible to damage from impact.
