The FOWLER 52-562-778-0 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision measurement in machining, inspection, and metrology applications. It delivers a maximum measurement range of 0.03 inches with a graduation resolution of 0.0005 inches and a matching accuracy of 0.0005 inches. The 1-inch diameter black dial features a 0-15-0 bidirectional reading scale, allowing the technician to read deflection in either direction without repositioning. A jeweled movement provides smooth, consistent needle travel and extended service life under repeated use. This indicator is intended for use by machinists, tool and die makers, quality control inspectors, and precision measurement professionals.
This dial test indicator is suited for surface plate work, machine tool setup, fixture alignment, and runout inspection on lathes, mills, and grinding machines. The horizontal contact point orientation makes it practical for reaching into confined areas and for checking part geometry in tight setups. The 0.5-inch contact point length supports consistent stylus engagement at the workpiece. Three contact points are included, offering flexibility across different measurement tasks. The clamp mount and included dovetail clamps and dovetail mounting hardware allow secure attachment to magnetic bases, indicator holders, and other standard fixturing.
Designed as an OEM-style precision dial test indicator compatible with standard dovetail clamp mounting systems and magnetic indicator bases common in machine shop and inspection environments.
Dial test indicators are installed by machinists and quality control technicians using magnetic bases, articulating arms, or other indicator holders. Secure the dovetail clamp snugly before taking measurements to prevent indicator movement. Avoid side-loading the contact point stem beyond the specified measurement range, as overtravel can damage the jeweled movement. Handle the contact tip and stem carefully during installation to maintain calibration accuracy.
