The FOWLER 52-562-001-BD is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control environments. It features a jeweled bearing movement with a 0.06 inch total measuring range and a graduation of 0.0005 inches per division, allowing repeatable readings at very fine tolerances. The 0-15-0 balanced dial format reads in both directions from center zero, making it well suited for runout, alignment, and comparative gauging work. The indicator ships NIST-certified and includes a fitted case, two dovetail stems, and a set of contact points, providing a complete setup out of the box. Machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians are the primary installers and users.
This indicator is built for use in machine shops, tool rooms, and inspection labs where tight tolerances demand reliable, traceable measurements. The horizontal orientation positions the contact point inline with the indicator body, which is the standard configuration for surface plate work, lathe alignment, milling fixture setup, and similar applications. The 1.5 inch white dial provides clear graduation visibility under typical shop lighting. The automatic reversal feature and revolution counter support bidirectional measurement without manual reset. The 210-degree contact point swivel angle adds flexibility when accessing confined or angled measurement surfaces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use dial test indicator compatible with standard dovetail stem mounting systems used on indicator holders, surface gages, and magnetic base arms common in precision metrology setups.
Dial test indicators are installed by machinists and metrology technicians using a compatible dovetail stem and indicator holder or magnetic base arm. Ensure the mounting stem is fully seated and the locking mechanism is secure before taking measurements to prevent indicator movement during contact. The contact point should be preloaded against the work surface within the usable range of the indicator travel. Handle the jeweled movement with care and avoid dropping or striking the indicator, as impact can damage the bearing assembly and affect calibration.
