The FOWLER 52-520-110-2 is a dial drop indicator designed for precise linear measurement in machining, metrology, and quality control applications. It delivers a 1-inch total measurement range with a graduation of 0.001 inches per division, allowing technicians to detect surface variation, runout, and alignment deviation with reliable accuracy. The indicator features a 2-1/4 inch white dial face with a 0-100 reading scale and a revolution counter that tracks full rotations across the measurement range. Each revolution covers 0.1 inches of travel. The solid steel housing provides durability in shop environments, and a carbide contact point resists wear during repeated use. Machinists, quality inspectors, and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers and users of this instrument.
This dial drop indicator is suited for use in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and inspection departments where consistent linear measurement is required. It mounts via a lug back, making it compatible with standard indicator holders, magnetic bases, and surface plate setups. Tolerance markers are included, allowing quick pass/fail inspection without additional calculation. It is well suited to checking part flatness, spindle runout, fixture alignment, and workpiece positioning on manual or CNC machine tools.
Designed for use with standard lug-back indicator holders, magnetic bases, and surface plate fixtures commonly used in machine shop and inspection environments. Stem diameter of 0.375 inches fits most universal indicator clamping systems.
Dial drop indicators are installed by machinists and quality control technicians using compatible holders or magnetic base assemblies. Ensure the indicator stem is clamped securely and aligned perpendicular to the measured surface to prevent cosine error. Do not force the spindle beyond its rated travel range, as this may damage the internal gear mechanism. Zero the dial face before taking measurements and verify the contact point is fully seated against the workpiece.
