The FOWLER 52-225-116-0 is a mechanical depth micrometer designed for precise depth measurement in machining, toolroom, and inspection applications. It covers a measurement range of 6 inches using a set of 6 interchangeable rotating rods, each with a diameter of 0.176 inches (3/16 inch nominal). Graduation is 0.0001 inches with an accuracy rating of 0.0002 inches, making it well-suited for applications where close tolerance verification is required. The ratchet stop thimble provides consistent measuring pressure, and the satin chrome finish reduces glare during use. Machinists, tool and die makers, and quality control technicians are the primary users of this instrument.
This depth micrometer is used in metalworking shops, manufacturing facilities, and inspection departments for measuring the depth of slots, holes, counterbores, and shoulders. The 4-inch base length provides a stable reference surface across a range of workpiece configurations. The base surface is hardened and ground for flatness and wear resistance. The included wooden case keeps the rods organized and protects the instrument during storage and transport. It is appropriate for both bench use and in-process inspection on the shop floor.
Designed as a standard mechanical depth micrometer for general-purpose depth measurement tasks in machining and inspection environments where a 6-inch range and interchangeable rod system are required.
This instrument requires no installation but should be handled and stored by a qualified machinist or metrologist familiar with micrometer calibration and care. Before use, clean the base surface and rod measuring faces with a lint-free cloth and verify the zero setting with the shortest rod seated. Do not overtighten the locking clamp, as this can affect calibration. Periodic calibration against a certified gage block set is recommended to verify accuracy.
