The Forney Industries 72729 is a 2-inch coarse wire cup brush designed for light-duty surface preparation and cleaning tasks. Built with high carbon steel crimped wire at 0.012 inch diameter, it delivers consistent abrasive action for removing dirt, rust, paint, scale, and weld spatter from metal surfaces. The 1/4-inch hex shank is compatible with standard portable electric tools, air tools, and cordless drills. Maximum rated speed is 6,000 RPM. Sold in a package of 6 brushes. Fabricators, welders, pipefitters, and general maintenance technicians regularly reach for this brush during weld prep and post-weld cleanup operations.
This cup brush is suited for residential and light commercial maintenance environments where surface prep work does not require aggressive wire gauges or high-speed angle grinders. Common applications include rust and scale removal on steel pipe, structural members, and weldments. The small cup format and 1/4-inch shank make it practical for working in tight spaces and contoured surfaces where larger cup brushes cannot reach. The coarse wire configuration provides adequate cutting action without excessive material removal on lighter base metals.
Designed for use with portable electric tools, pneumatic air tools, and cordless drills equipped with a 1/4-inch chuck or 1/4-inch hex adapter.
Secure the 1/4-inch shank firmly in the tool chuck before operation and verify the tool RPM rating does not exceed the 6,000 RPM maximum rating of the brush. Always wear appropriate eye protection and gloves, as wire bristles can shed during use. Inspect the brush for damaged or missing wires before each use and remove from service if deformation is present. Follow applicable ANSI and OSHA safety standards for abrasive wheel and brush use.
