The Forney Industries 42291 is an E70S-6 classification solid MIG welding wire supplied on a 2-pound spool. The 0.030-inch diameter wire is formulated for gas-shielded MIG (GMAW) welding on mild and low-alloy steel. E70S-6 wire carries a higher manganese and silicon deoxidizer content than standard S-2 or S-3 grades, which makes it well-suited for welding over light mill scale, rust, or surface contaminants common in fabrication and repair work. This spool is a standard pick for welders, fabricators, and maintenance technicians working with small to mid-size wire-feed machines.
This wire is used in light manufacturing, auto body repair, general fabrication, and MRO maintenance welding on mild steel base materials. The 2-pound spool size fits most bench-top and portable MIG welders with a standard 4-inch spool hub. It is appropriate for single-pass and multi-pass welds on thin to medium gauge steel in both shop and field settings. Shielding gas requirements follow standard E70S-6 practice, typically a CO2 or argon-CO2 blend.
Designed for use in standard MIG welders accepting a 4-inch spool hub and feeding 0.030-inch solid wire. Verify drive roll groove size matches 0.030-inch wire before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified welder or technician familiar with GMAW equipment. Power down the welder and release tension on the drive rolls before loading the spool. Thread the wire through the inlet guide, drive rolls, and gun liner carefully to avoid kinking. Set drive roll tension and wire feed speed per the machine manufacturer's settings chart for 0.030-inch E70S-6 wire.
