The FORNEY INDUSTRIES INC 30801 is an E7018 mild steel low hydrogen welding electrode measuring 1/8 inches in diameter, sold in a pack of 12. This electrode is designed for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) applications requiring low hydrogen deposits to minimize cracking and porosity in the finished weld. The low hydrogen coating reduces moisture pickup, which directly limits hydrogen-induced cracking and weld bead peeling. It performs reliably on smaller amperage DC welders as well as higher amperage AC welders, giving welders flexibility across a range of machines and job conditions.
This electrode is suited for all-position welding on mild and cold rolled steels, including hardened steels where preheat is not practical or available. It is a go-to choice for field erection work, structural steel fabrication, frame assemblies, trailer hitches, and chassis construction. The E7018 classification makes it appropriate for applications where weld quality and mechanical integrity are critical, particularly on base materials that tend to exhibit excessive porosity when welded with conventional electrodes.
Designed for use with DC and AC shielded metal arc welders capable of supporting E7018 electrodes at appropriate amperage settings for 1/8-inch diameter rods.
E7018 electrodes must be stored in a dry environment and should be kept in a rod oven or sealed container to prevent moisture absorption, which degrades the low hydrogen performance. Before welding, ensure the work area is properly grounded and the welder is set to the correct polarity and amperage range for 1/8-inch E7018 electrodes. Always follow applicable AWS and workplace safety standards, including proper ventilation, PPE, and fire watch procedures. Electrode handling and welding should be performed by a qualified welder familiar with SMAW processes.
