The FORNEY 30686 is an E7018 AC low hydrogen mild steel stick welding electrode designed for use on smaller amperage AC and DC welders. The low hydrogen coating reduces cracking and peeling in the finished weld, making it suitable for hardenable steels where no pre-heat is applied and for cold rolled steels prone to porosity with conventional electrodes. At 1/8 inch diameter and 14 inches in length, these rods deliver a tensile strength of 70,000 psi and are compatible with AC, DCEN, and DCEP polarity. Excellent restart capability is built in, supporting consistent arc initiation throughout the box. This 10-pound box is sold as a single unit.
These electrodes are suited for welding low, medium, and high carbon steels as well as some higher-strength low alloy steels. Typical applications include structural fabrication work such as frames, trailer hitches, and chassis assembly. They perform in all positions, making them a practical choice for field repairs and shop fabrication alike. The all-position capability and broad steel compatibility make these rods a common selection for both maintenance welders and production shops running smaller AC or DC stick machines.
Designed for use on low, medium, and high carbon steels and some higher-strength low alloy steels including applications such as frames, trailer hitches, and chassis. Suitable for smaller amperage AC and DC stick welders accepting 1/8 inch electrodes.
Installation and use of stick welding electrodes should be performed by a qualified welder familiar with SMAW processes and applicable safety standards. Ensure the welder is set to the correct polarity and amperage range for the electrode diameter before striking an arc. Store low hydrogen electrodes in a dry environment or a rod oven to prevent moisture absorption, which can reintroduce hydrogen and compromise weld integrity. Always follow proper personal protective equipment requirements including an appropriate welding helmet, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing.
