The FIELDPIECE dr58 is a heated diode refrigerant leak detector designed for HVAC technicians performing high-sensitivity leak checks across a wide range of refrigerant types. The heated diode sensing element delivers reliable detection of CFC, HFC, HCFC, HFO, and blended refrigerants, including A1 and A2L tracer gases. A large LCD provides clear readings in the field, and the IP54-rated housing resists dust and water splash — a practical advantage in mechanical rooms, rooftop units, and tight equipment spaces. A built-in USB rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers up to 18 hours of runtime, reducing dependency on disposable batteries during long service days.
The dr58 is suited for residential and commercial HVAC applications where technicians need to locate refrigerant leaks quickly and accurately. It is appropriate for use on split systems, package units, chillers, and refrigeration equipment that use common halogenated refrigerants or next-generation low-GWP HFO blends. The detector is particularly relevant as A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454B become more prevalent in new equipment installations and retrofits.
Designed for use with halogenated refrigerants including CFC, HFC, HCFC, HFO, and blended refrigerant types commonly found in residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
This instrument is serviced and operated by licensed HVAC technicians. Before performing a leak check, de-energize the system per local safety protocols and allow pressures to stabilize. Follow manufacturer operating instructions for sensor warm-up time before placing the probe near suspected leak points. Handle the heated diode sensor tip carefully to avoid contamination, which can reduce sensitivity and shorten sensor life.
