The FERNCO INC P33U-139 is a reducing size donut gasket designed to transition between a 3-inch cast iron hub and a 1.5-inch Schedule 40 plastic pipe. This flexible donut seal compresses inside the bell end of a cast iron fitting to create a watertight connection around a smaller-diameter plastic pipe passing through it. It is used in drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems where a reducing connection is required between legacy cast iron piping and modern PVC or ABS runs. Licensed plumbers and pipe fitters are the primary installers of this component.
This reducing donut is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing applications where cast iron drain lines must be joined to Schedule 40 plastic pipe of a smaller diameter. Typical install scenarios include bathroom stack repairs, branch drain tie-ins, and retrofit work on older construction where cast iron soil pipe is already in place. The part is sold in packages of 20 units, making it practical for contractors handling multiple connections on a job site.
Designed for use connecting 3-inch cast iron hub fittings to 1.5-inch Schedule 40 plastic pipe in DWV systems.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Before installing, shut off water flow and ensure the cast iron hub is clean and free of debris or scale that could prevent a proper seal. The donut is seated by pressing it firmly into the cast iron bell end before inserting the plastic pipe. Do not use pipe dope, solvent cement, or other sealants on this gasket unless specifically directed by the manufacturer.
