The FERNCO INC P1006-43 is a flexible reducing coupling designed to join dissimilar pipe materials in drain, waste, and vent applications. It transitions a 4-inch pipe to a 3-inch pipe and arrives with two stainless steel clamps that cinch the coupling securely to each pipe end. The elastomeric shear-ring design accommodates minor misalignment and absorbs vibration, making it a practical solution where rigid joints would crack or leak. Licensed plumbers and pipe fitters install this fitting during sewer line repairs, remodels, and new construction tie-ins where pipe size or material changes mid-run.
This coupling is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing systems where clay pipe connects to cast iron or plastic pipe. Typical applications include sewer lateral repairs, basement drain tie-ins, and retrofit work where older clay or concrete pipe meets newer PVC or ABS runs. The 4-inch-to-3-inch reduction handles common stack and lateral transition points found throughout existing plumbing infrastructure.
Designed to connect clay or concrete pipe to cast iron or plastic pipe in 4-inch-to-3-inch reducing configurations. Use only where the pipe outside diameters fall within the coupling's rated range as printed on the fitting or packaging.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off water service and ensure the line is depressurized and drained before cutting into an existing pipe. Clean pipe ends of debris, sharp burrs, and soil before sliding the coupling into position. Tighten stainless steel clamps evenly and do not over-torque the band hardware.
