The EMUGE BU513510.5614 is a cobalt spiral flute STI tap designed for cutting Screw Thread Insert (STI) threads in demanding materials. It features a 3-flute, 45-degree helix geometry with a bottoming chamfer, making it well-suited for threading operations that require full thread depth close to the bottom of a blind hole. The bright finish cobalt construction provides heat resistance and edge toughness for use in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. Overall length is 3.15 inches, shank diameter is 0.22 inches, and thread length is 0.512 inches. This tap is part of the EMUGE Enorm Z series and produces a 3B class of fit at 8-32 UNC.
This tap is used in machining and fabrication environments where STI threaded inserts are required to restore or strengthen threads in materials prone to wear or stripping. The 45-degree spiral flute design efficiently evacuates chips upward, making it particularly effective in blind-hole applications. It is appropriate for use in shops and production facilities working with acid resistant steel, stainless steel, titanium alloys, nickel alloys, aluminum alloys, heat-treated steel, tool steel, structural steel, free cutting steel, high alloy steel castings, steel castings, and nickel. Right-hand flute direction suits standard right-hand threading operations.
Designed for use in STI tapping applications on acid resistant steel, aluminum alloys, free cutting steel, heat-treated steel, heat-treated materials, high alloy steel castings, nickel, nickel alloys, stainless steel, steel castings, structural steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel. Produces 8-32 UNC STI threads with a 3B class of fit.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists and tool and die professionals using a tapping head, CNC machining center, or manual tap wrench sized for the 0.22-inch shank. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct STI tap drill size is used prior to tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel or titanium alloys. Inspect the tap for wear regularly, as cobalt tooling in hard materials will experience gradual edge degradation.
