The EMUGE BU456011.5614 is a cobalt spiral flute STI tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC threads in titanium and other difficult-to-machine materials. Part of the Rekord D-Ti series, it features a 3-flute design with a 15-degree helix angle and a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing thread cutting close to the bottom of blind holes. The nitride/oxide surface finish improves lubricity and wear resistance during high-friction tapping operations. With an overall length of 3.15 inches and a shank diameter of 0.22 inches, this tap is sized for use in standard machine tool holders. Cutting is right-hand flute orientation, and the 3BX class of fit designation indicates a close tolerance suitable for thread insert applications.
This tap is intended for STI (Screw Thread Insert) applications where a HeliCoil or similar wire thread insert will be installed after tapping. It is well suited for aerospace, automotive, and industrial maintenance work where titanium components require threaded inserts to restore or create load-bearing threads. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly useful in shallow or restricted-depth blind hole situations. Machinists and maintenance technicians working with titanium alloys will find the cobalt construction and Rekord D-Ti series geometry appropriate for production and repair environments where tool life under heat and work-hardening conditions is a priority.
Designed for STI tapping of 8-32 UNC threads with a 3BX class of fit, specifically optimized for titanium material applications as part of the Rekord D-Ti series.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench with appropriate torque control. Always use cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for titanium when running this tap to prevent galling and premature wear. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the hole axis before engagement. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and tool manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds when operating in titanium.
