The EMUGE BU446A00.5011 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for producing 3/8-16 UNC internal threads in blind hole applications. Manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel (HSS-E-PM) and finished with a TiN-T26 coating, this tap is engineered for chipless thread forming in steel and stainless steel workpieces. The bottoming chamfer - 1.5 to 2 thread lead - allows threading to the bottom of blind holes where clearance is limited. With an overall length of 3.937 inches and a thread length of 0.630 inches, it fits standard tapping chucks for both manual and CNC operations. Coolant-through capability supports high-productivity tapping cycles.
This tap is suited for production and job-shop environments where threading into steel and stainless steel is a routine operation. The 2BX class of fit and H5 thread limit deliver a controlled interference fit, making it appropriate for applications requiring precise thread form without cutting chips. Blind hole threading in ferrous materials - including structural steel and austenitic stainless - is the primary use case. Both manual machinists and CNC operators working in metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance repair operations will find this tap applicable to their workflow.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in steel and stainless steel (material application codes P and M). Part of the EMUGE Series BU446A00, trade name InnoForm 2-VA/E-SN-IKZ-PM-TiN-T26. Suitable for use with standard tapping holders that accommodate a 0.381-inch shank diameter and a 0.286-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill - consult the applicable forming tap drill chart for 3/8-16 UNC before drilling pilot holes, as the required hole diameter differs from a standard cut tap drill size. This tap is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using tapping heads, CNC machining centers, or hand tap wrenches; always confirm machine spindle direction and coolant delivery before starting a cycle. Disengage all power to the machine and secure the workpiece before changing or inspecting the tap. Do not use this tap as a cutting tap - it is a cold-forming tool and is not designed to cut threads in pre-tapped or hardened holes.
