The EMUGE BU446A00.5010 is a thread forming (chipless) tap designed for 5/16-18 UNC internal threads in steel and stainless steel. Manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel (HSS-E-PM) and coated with TiN-T26, it delivers extended tool life in demanding tapping applications. With a bottoming chamfer of 1.5 to 2 thread pitches, it reaches near-bottom thread depths in blind holes. The H5 thread limit and 2BX class of fit ensure a controlled, accurate thread form. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed, production-volume tapping. Overall length is 3.543 inches with a thread length of 0.551 inches.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in ferrous materials, specifically steel and stainless steel, corresponding to ISO material application codes P and M. The bottoming chamfer geometry makes it a practical choice for holes with limited runout depth, such as those found in machined components, fastener bosses, and structural assemblies. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using CNC machining centers, tapping heads, or manual tap handles in controlled production or job-shop environments. The trade name InnoForm 2-VA/E-SN-IKZ-PM-TiN-T26 identifies the full series designation in EMUGE documentation.
Designed for threading steel and stainless steel workpieces (ISO material application codes P and M) in blind hole applications requiring a 5/16-18 UNC internal thread. Part of the EMUGE BU446A00 series.
Installation is performed by machinists using CNC machining centers, dedicated tapping attachments, or manual tap holders. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is fully stopped before tap changes. Use the recommended cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material; the coolant-through feature requires an adequate supply at the required pressure. Verify tap alignment with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engaging to prevent tap breakage or thread distortion.
