The EMUGE BU100501.5011 is a 3/8-16 UNC straight flute machine tap designed for threading blind holes and through holes in demanding ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a nitride coating, it delivers increased wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS taps. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes, making it a practical choice for tight-tolerance work. At 3.937 inches overall length with a 0.866-inch thread length, it fits standard tap holders used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping equipment. The 3-flute straight flute geometry handles chip evacuation in a range of ferrous cast and machined materials. This tap is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading applications in materials including austenitic iron, ferritic iron, perlitic iron, spheroidal graphite iron, meehanite iron, bronze, gunmetal, low alloyed casting steel, tool steel, and high speed steel. The Class 2BX oversize designation compensates for coating buildup, helping achieve a Class 2B finished thread tolerance after the nitride coating is applied. It belongs to the EMUGE Rekord A-H series, which is engineered for machine tapping in production environments where consistent thread quality is required.
Designed for machine tapping applications in the EMUGE Rekord A-H series; suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping heads configured for 3/8-inch tooling with standard tap holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist using appropriate tap holders or floating tap adapters to prevent binding and tool breakage. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material being tapped. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to promote chip evacuation and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged tap can destroy the threaded feature and the workpiece.
