The ECOBEE PEK2-01 is a C-wire adapter that enables ecobee Smart Thermostats to operate in homes and light commercial spaces where no common wire is present at the thermostat base. Without a C-wire, many smart thermostats cannot maintain stable power, causing erratic behavior or connection drops. The PEK2-01 solves that by drawing power through the existing low-voltage wiring without requiring a new wire run. It is rated for 24 VAC systems only and ships as a separate accessory with the ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential and Smart Thermostat Lite, which do not include a Power Extender Kit in the box. HVAC technicians and experienced DIYers handle installation using the QR-code-linked guide included on the packaging.
The PEK2-01 is intended for residential and light commercial installations where the existing thermostat wiring lacks a dedicated common wire. It is compatible with standard 24 VAC forced-air heating and cooling systems. It is not compatible with millivolt systems, high-voltage systems, dual-transformer setups, fan coil units, or communicating systems. Technicians should verify system compatibility on the ecobee support page before ordering. The ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential and Smart Thermostat Lite are the two models that require this kit to be purchased separately.
Designed for use with ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential and ecobee Smart Thermostat Lite on standard 24 VAC systems. Not compatible with millivolt, high-voltage, dual-transformer, fan coil, or communicating systems. Verify system wiring type before installation.
Installation is performed by a licensed HVAC technician or a qualified installer familiar with low-voltage thermostat wiring. Power down the system at the breaker before disconnecting any thermostat wires at the air handler or furnace control board. The PEK2-01 installs at the equipment, not at the thermostat sub-base. Follow the ecobee-provided wiring diagram exactly and confirm system type compatibility before applying power.
