The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SP-5625-12-P-I is a 9/16-12 high-speed steel (HSS) spiral point plug tap designed for threading through-holes in metal and other machinable materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting flutes, reducing chip packing and allowing continuous cutting in through-hole applications. This tap is built to the Unified National Coarse (UNC) thread standard at 9/16 inch diameter with 12 threads per inch. It is used by machinists, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production and repair environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel, aluminum, and cast iron. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 thread lead — makes it appropriate as a general-purpose starting tap for most standard through-hole threading jobs. It is a common choice for manual tapping with a tap wrench or for use in CNC and manual machine tool setups where through-hole threading at 9/16-12 UNC is required.
Designed as a standard 9/16-12 UNC spiral point plug tap compatible with tap wrenches, T-handle wrenches, and machine tool spindles accepting the corresponding shank size for this tap class.
Always secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 9/16-12 UNC threading. Apply cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Back off the tap periodically to break chips when tapping by hand. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if cutting edges are degraded.
