The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SC400-023-I is a 23/64-inch cobalt stub drill designed for metal drilling applications in trade and industrial environments. The stub-length body provides increased rigidity compared to standard-length drill bits, reducing deflection and chatter when drilling through hard or abrasive materials. Cobalt construction gives this bit superior heat resistance and hardness retention, making it well suited for stainless steel, cast iron, and other tough alloys that would quickly wear down standard high-speed steel tooling. Machinists, pipefitters, and fabricators reach for stub drills when working in tight clearances or when hole accuracy is critical.
The SC400-023-I is used in general metalworking, fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and on-site trade work where a rigid, short-shank drill is preferred. The 23/64-inch diameter is a common sizing step used when drilling pilot holes before tapping, reaming, or enlarging existing bores in structural steel, plate, and pipe components. The stub-length geometry makes it compatible with most standard drill chucks and magnetic drill press setups in confined-space applications.
Designed as an OEM-style stub drill replacement compatible with standard 3/8-inch or larger drill chucks used in benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic base drills across metalworking and fabrication applications.
Stub drills are installed and operated by machinists, pipefitters, and metal fabricators following standard shop safety practices. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the chuck is properly tightened before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend bit life and prevent work hardening. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection whenever operating drilling equipment.
