The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL S400-016-I is a 1/4 inch high-speed steel (HSS) stub-length drill bit featuring a 135-degree split-point tip. The shorter flute length of a stub drill provides greater rigidity than a jobber-length bit, reducing deflection and chatter when drilling into hard or abrasive materials. The 135-degree split-point geometry eliminates the need for a center punch on most materials, allowing the bit to self-center on contact and begin cutting immediately. This bit is suited for production drilling, metalworking, and maintenance applications where precision and bit stiffness are priorities.
This stub drill bit is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills across light manufacturing, fabrication shops, and general maintenance environments. Its compact length makes it well suited for confined spaces or applications where standard-length bits flex excessively. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators commonly reach for stub-series bits when drilling metals including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast iron.
Designed as a standard stub-length drill bit compatible with 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chucks and CNC toolholders accepting straight-shank bits.
This bit should be installed and removed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using the appropriate chuck or toolholder. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
