The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL MT-025-045-P-I is an M2.5 x 0.45 metric plug tap manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS). Plug taps feature a chamfer on the first 3 to 5 threads, allowing the tap to start easily in a pre-drilled hole while still cutting full threads through most of the tap length. This geometry makes the plug tap the most common style used for general threading work in through holes and blind holes with sufficient depth. At 0.09 pounds, this is a compact, lightweight tap suited for precise hand or machine tapping in small-diameter metric applications.
This tap is intended for threading M2.5 x 0.45 mm pitch holes in metal, plastic, and similar materials. It is commonly used in light manufacturing, maintenance and repair, electronics assembly, and mechanical assembly work where small metric threads are required. The HSS construction provides adequate hardness and wear resistance for threading steel, aluminum, brass, and other common workpiece materials encountered in trade and production environments.
Designed as a general-purpose metric plug tap for use in standard M2.5 x 0.45 tapping applications. Fits standard tap holders, T-handle tap wrenches, and machine tap chucks sized for small-diameter taps.
Tapping should be performed by a machinist or qualified tradesperson using a properly sized tap wrench or tapping machine with appropriate feed control. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole before starting. Use a suitable cutting fluid or tapping lubricant for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Back the tap off periodically during hand tapping to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind holes.
