The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-2500-28-T-I is a 1/4-28 high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap designed for cutting internal threads in metal workpieces. The taper tap features a gradually chamfered lead that distributes cutting load across several threads, making it the preferred starting tap when threading a blind or through hole from scratch. At 0.31 pounds, it is a lightweight, single-piece threading tool suited for bench work, field service, and maintenance applications across mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC trades.
This tap is used wherever a 1/4-28 UNF (Unified Fine) internal thread is required. The fine thread pitch makes it common in precision mechanical assemblies, instrument panels, electrical enclosures, and hydraulic or pneumatic fittings where vibration resistance and tight thread engagement matter. It is appropriate for use in both production and repair scenarios, threading steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable metals by hand with a standard tap wrench.
Designed as a standard hand taper tap for any application requiring a 1/4-28 UNF internal thread in machinable metals and suitable materials.
Installation is performed by hand using a tap wrench; a licensed machinist, maintenance technician, or qualified tradesperson should select the correct drill size per UNF tap drill charts before starting. Secure the workpiece firmly and apply cutting fluid to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind holes. Never force a tap — if resistance increases sharply, back out and clear chips before continuing.
