The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-12500-12-T-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap designed for cutting internal threads in metal workpieces. This tap produces a 1-1/4 inch diameter thread at 12 threads per inch (TPI), following the Unified National Coarse/Fine thread standard at this size. The taper lead — typically 7 to 10 threads of gradual entry — reduces cutting resistance and makes it well-suited for starting threads in through-holes or in materials that require a guided entry. At 0.31 pounds, it is a lightweight, hand-use tool appropriate for machine shops, plumbing rough-in, pipefitting work, and general metalworking applications.
This tap is used when threading larger-diameter holes in steel, iron, aluminum, brass, or similar machinable metals. The taper style is the standard starting tap for hand-tapping operations, providing controlled thread engagement from the first pass. It is commonly used by machinists, pipefitters, plumbers, and maintenance technicians working on equipment housings, manifolds, flanges, and structural connections requiring a 1-1/4 inch 12 TPI thread. The import designation indicates offshore manufacture, making it a cost-effective option for general-purpose or higher-volume threading work.
Designed as a general-purpose hand taper tap for 1-1/4 inch 12 TPI threading applications. Compatible with standard tap wrenches sized for large-shank taps.
Use with an appropriately sized tap wrench; do not use impact drivers or power tools unless the tap is rated for machine use. Drill the correct tap drill size for 1-1/4 inch 12 TPI threads before starting — using an undersized or oversized pilot hole will damage the tap or produce poor threads. Apply cutting oil throughout the threading operation to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Back off a half-turn periodically to break chips, especially in blind holes or ductile materials.
