The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-1024-T-I is a 10-24 unified coarse thread hand taper tap manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS). Taper taps are ground with a progressive lead that distributes cutting load across the first 8 to 10 threads, making thread entry easier in through-holes and blind holes with adequate depth. At 0.02 pounds, this is a compact, lightweight tap suited for hand-tapping operations on the bench or in the field. HSS construction provides the hardness and heat resistance needed to cut threads in mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials commonly encountered in trade work.
This tap is intended for threading 10-24 UNC holes by hand using a standard tap wrench or T-handle. The taper lead style makes it the preferred starting tap when cutting new threads from scratch. Electricians threading enclosure knockouts, HVAC techs threading sheet metal and light structural steel, and plumbers threading fixture mounting hardware are among the trades that reach for this size regularly. It is also commonly used in light fabrication and repair work where a power tapping setup is not practical.
Designed as a standard 10-24 UNC hand taper tap for use in any application requiring a 10-24 unified coarse thread in through-holes or sufficiently deep blind holes.
A licensed machinist, electrician, or qualified technician should select the correct tap drill size for 10-24 UNC threads before tapping. Secure the workpiece firmly before applying the tap wrench, and use a cutting fluid appropriate for the material being threaded to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Replace any tap that shows signs of chipping, dulling, or thread damage to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage in the workpiece.
