The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-080-P-I is a 0-80 high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in small-diameter holes by hand. The plug chamfer style features a gradual lead-in of several threads, making it well suited for through-hole tapping where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. At 0.63 pounds, the tap is lightweight and easy to handle during precision threading work. HSS construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed to thread steel, aluminum, brass, and other common shop materials.
This tap is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and field service applications wherever 0-80 UNF internal threads are required. The 0-80 thread designation is one of the finest standard thread pitches in the Unified National system and is commonly found in instrument work, electronics enclosures, optical equipment, and precision mechanical assemblies. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians typically use this tap for repair threading and new-hole tapping in small components.
Designed as a standard hand tap for use with any tap wrench or T-handle driver sized for 0-80 UNF taps in through-hole threading applications.
This tap is installed by hand using a tap wrench; secure the workpiece before threading to prevent movement. Follow standard practice by backing the tap one-quarter turn for every half turn of forward progress to break chips and reduce tap breakage risk. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Broken taps in small diameters are difficult to remove, so avoid side loading and never force the tap against resistance.
