The E-Z LOK 400-M4 is a brass knife-style threaded insert designed to create durable M4x0.7 internal threads in soft materials such as wood, plastic, and composite panels. The knife insert style features a knurled or serrated outer profile that cuts into the host material during installation, locking the insert in place without requiring heat or ultrasonic equipment. Each insert measures 0.375 inches in overall length with a 0.35-inch insert diameter and requires a 0.25-inch drill hole for proper seating. The minimum grip thickness required is 0.5 inches. This package contains 10 inserts.
Knife inserts like the 400-M4 are commonly used in woodworking, furniture assembly, cabinetry, and light-duty industrial assembly applications where a reliable threaded anchor point is needed in non-metallic substrates. They are installed by tradespeople, millworkers, and assembly technicians working with particleboard, hardwood, plywood, and similar materials. The M4 hex drive simplifies installation with a standard hex key or driver bit.
Designed for installation into wood, plastic, and composite materials with a minimum grip thickness of 0.5 inches and a 0.25-inch diameter pilot hole. Accepts standard M4x0.7 machine screws and bolts.
Drill a 0.25-inch pilot hole to the required depth before driving the insert. Use a hex key or hex driver bit sized for M4 to press and rotate the insert flush with or below the surface of the material. Ensure the host material thickness meets the 0.5-inch minimum grip requirement to achieve full thread engagement. Avoid over-driving, which can strip the surrounding material or distort the insert threads.
