The E-Z LOK 329-008 is a self-locking threaded insert designed to create a secure, vibration-resistant internal thread in metal assemblies. It features an 8-32 internal thread and a 5/16-18 external thread in UNC form, with an overall length of 0.290 inches (19/64 inches). Manufactured from C12L14 carbon steel with a smooth, rolled finish, this insert is well suited for applications where standard tapped threads are insufficient or where thread repair and reinforcement are required. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and assembly professionals install this type of insert in production and repair environments where thread holding strength and resistance to loosening under load or vibration are critical requirements.
This insert is applied in light-to-medium duty metal assemblies where a standard tap is used to prepare the receiving hole. The self-lock wall design uses interference fit principles along the external thread to resist rotation and back-out once installed. Typical applications include machine components, brackets, enclosures, and equipment housings where 8-32 fastener engagement is needed in a drilled and tapped bore sized for a 5/16-18 thread. The compact 0.290-inch length makes it appropriate for thin-wall sections where a full-depth tapped hole is not feasible.
Designed for installation into holes tapped to 5/16-18 UNC using a standard tap. Accepts 8-32 UNC fasteners at 2B internal thread class of fit.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard installation driver appropriate for self-lock wall inserts. The receiving bore must be tapped to the correct 5/16-18 UNC specification before insert installation. Ensure the workpiece is secure and free of chips or debris in the threaded bore prior to driving the insert. Follow the insert manufacturer's installation tooling guidelines to avoid cross-threading or under-driving the insert.
