The DYNABRADE 56177 is a PSA (pressure-sensitive adhesive) disc backing pad designed to mount abrasive discs on random orbital sanders and similar pneumatic or electric finishing tools. It features a 5/16-24 male threaded mount and is rated to 13,000 RPM, making it suitable for sustained sanding operations in metal fabrication, automotive bodywork, woodworking, and general surface prep. The medium-density construction balances flexibility and disc support, allowing the pad to conform slightly to contoured surfaces while maintaining consistent abrasive contact across the face. Installed by metalworkers, auto body technicians, and finish carpenters, this pad serves as the interface between the tool spindle and the sanding disc.
This backing pad is intended for use with random orbital sanders equipped with a 5/16-24 threaded spindle. It accepts PSA-backed abrasive discs, which adhere directly to the pad face without requiring a hook-and-loop layer. This makes it a common choice in production environments where discs are changed less frequently and a firm, low-profile bond to the pad is preferred. Suitable for both shop and field applications across metal finishing, paint prep, and wood surface conditioning tasks.
Designed for use with random orbital sanders equipped with a 5/16-24 threaded spindle that accept PSA-backed abrasive discs.
Installation is performed by threading the 56177 onto the sander spindle by hand and securing it snugly — do not use impact tools or excessive force on the threaded connection. Power down and disconnect the tool from its air supply or electrical source before mounting or removing the backing pad. Inspect the pad face for contamination or damage before adhering a new abrasive disc, as debris under the disc can cause uneven wear or disc separation at speed. Follow the tool manufacturer's RPM rating and do not exceed the 13,000 RPM limit marked on this pad.
