The DURA PLASTIC 437-337BC is a Schedule 40 PVC reducing coupling designed for joining pipes of two different diameters in a single inline connection. It features a 3-inch spigot end and a 1.5-inch socket end, allowing a direct transition between pipe sizes without additional adapters. PVC construction makes this fitting suitable for cold and ambient-temperature water service, drain and waste lines, and irrigation systems. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in both residential and light commercial applications where a permanent, solvent-welded reduction is required.
This reducing coupling is used in Schedule 40 PVC piping systems where a 3-inch main line steps down to a 1.5-inch branch or outlet. Typical install scenarios include domestic water distribution, pool and spa plumbing, irrigation mainlines, and drain-waste-vent systems where a reduction in pipe diameter is needed at a junction point. The spigot end slides into a standard 3-inch socket fitting or valve, while the socket end accepts a standard 1.5-inch spigot pipe or fitting.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 PVC piping systems using 3-inch and 1.5-inch nominal pipe sizes with solvent-weld connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters following IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting into an existing system. Clean and deburr all pipe ends, apply approved PVC primer, then solvent cement before joining. Allow full cure time per the cement manufacturer instructions before pressurizing the system.
