The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 66713 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in precision toolmaking, die work, and machining applications. Conforming to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock measures 1/32 inch thick, 3/4 inch wide, and 18 inches long. O1 tool steel is valued for its consistent hardening response in oil-quench heat treating, making it a reliable choice for punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools. At 0.12 pounds, this is a single-piece stock bar suited for low-volume fabrication or prototype work. Machinists and tool-and-die makers are the primary end users.
This flat stock is used in shop environments where close-tolerance blanks are required before heat treating. The 1/32-inch thickness makes it appropriate for thin blades, shims, small punches, and similar precision components. It is supplied in the annealed condition, ready for machining and subsequent oil-quench hardening. Typical applications include production of small tooling components in job shops, maintenance departments, and prototype fabrication settings. The 18-inch length allows for multiple smaller blanks to be cut from a single piece.
Designed as a general-purpose O1 tool steel flat stock blank suitable for machining into punches, dies, gauges, blades, and other precision tooling components that require oil-quench heat treating.
Cutting, grinding, and machining should be performed by qualified machinists using appropriate tooling for hardened or annealed tool steel stock. Follow standard shop safety practices when cutting to length, including securing the workpiece and using coolant as appropriate. Heat treating to final hardness should be performed by a qualified heat treater following established procedures for AISI O1 tool steel. Always allow the material to reach ambient temperature before measuring to final tolerance.
