The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 57951 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar cut to 7/16 inch thick, 4 inches wide, and 36 inches long. O1 is a versatile oil-hardening cold-work tool steel known for excellent machinability, good edge retention after hardening, and dimensional stability through the heat-treat cycle. This flat stock is used in toolmaking, die making, jig and fixture fabrication, and precision machining operations where tight tolerances and consistent material properties are required. Machinists, toolmakers, and die makers work with this material in both job shops and industrial manufacturing environments. Weight is 18.05 pounds per piece.
This flat stock is suited for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, cutting tools, and general toolroom components requiring oil-hardening steel. The 36-inch length allows multiple blanks to be cut from a single bar, minimizing waste. The 4-inch width and 7/16-inch thickness cover a broad range of tool and die applications. Tolerances are held to industry standards for flat tool steel stock, making this material ready for layout, machining, and heat treatment without additional surface preparation in most applications.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for general toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications requiring cold-work tool steel in flat bar form.
Cutting and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers using appropriate cutting fluids and tooling rated for tool steel. Heat treatment, including oil hardening and tempering, must follow established metallurgical procedures for AISI O1 and should be performed by personnel experienced with tool steel heat treatment. Always wear appropriate PPE when cutting, grinding, or handling steel bar stock. Verify final dimensions after machining and before heat treatment, as distortion can occur during the hardening cycle.
