The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 57892 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar supplied in annealed flat stock form. It measures 5/32 inches thick, 4 inches wide, and 36 inches long and is manufactured to AISI Type O1 material specification. O1 is a general-purpose oil-hardening tool steel known for good dimensional stability during heat treatment and strong wear resistance after hardening. This flat stock is used in fabricating dies, punches, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and cutting tools. Machinists, toolmakers, and metalworking shops are the primary users. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for precision tooling applications where tight dimensional control is required before grinding to final size.
This flat stock is appropriate for tool and die shops, machine shops, and industrial fabrication environments working on short-run or prototype tooling. It is well suited for applications requiring moderate toughness and good machinability in the annealed state followed by oil-quench hardening. The 36-inch length allows for efficient blanking of multiple tool blanks from a single bar. Width tolerance is plus 0.005 inches, minus 0.000 inches, and length tolerance is plus 0.5 inches, providing adequate stock for finishing operations.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for general toolmaking, die making, and precision fixture fabrication applications requiring oil-quench heat treatment.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers using appropriate metalworking equipment. Always wear proper personal protective equipment when cutting or grinding steel bar stock. Heat treatment of O1 tool steel requires oil quenching and must be performed according to established metallurgical procedures by qualified personnel. Consult material data specifications before specifying this material for a critical tooling application.
