The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 57764 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar cut to 3/8 inches thick, 1-3/4 inches wide, and 18 inches long. O1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade known for good wear resistance, machinability, and dimensional stability during heat treatment. This flat stock ships in an annealed condition, ready for machining to a finished tool profile before hardening. Machinists, toolmakers, and die makers commonly use this stock to fabricate punches, dies, gauges, bushings, and other precision tooling components. The piece weighs 3.39 pounds.
This flat stock is suited for short-run tooling and fixture work in job shops, tool rooms, and maintenance departments. The 18-inch length provides enough material for multiple tool blanks or a single longer component. The pre-cut flat format reduces setup time compared to round or square bar when the finished part calls for a flat cross-section. It is appropriate for both manual machining and CNC milling operations prior to heat treatment.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for general toolmaking, die making, and precision fixture fabrication applications requiring oil-quench heat treatment.
O1 tool steel flat stock is machined by qualified toolmakers or machinists before hardening. All rough machining, drilling, and grinding should be completed in the annealed state prior to oil quench and temper heat treatment. Follow recognized heat treatment procedures and applicable shop safety standards when hardening. Handle freshly hardened pieces with care, as untempered tool steel is brittle.
