The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 57762 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar supplied in an annealed, machinable condition and ready for shop fabrication, heat treating, and finish grinding. Conforming to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock measures 5/16 inches thick, 8 inches wide, and 18 inches long, with a weight of 12.89 pounds. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making this suitable for toolroom applications where dimensional precision matters before and after heat treatment. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and industrial maintenance technicians commonly work with this material.
O1 tool steel flat stock is used in the fabrication of dies, punches, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and cutting tools. The oil-hardening grade offers predictable distortion during heat treat, which is important when maintaining close tolerances on finished tooling. This stock is appropriate for both job-shop and production toolroom environments where custom tooling is produced in-house. The 8 inches wide by 18 inches long footprint accommodates a range of medium-to-large die and fixture blanks without requiring initial cut-down from wider bar.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock for use in toolroom fabrication, die making, and general industrial tooling applications requiring oil-quench heat treatment.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die makers using appropriate cutting fluids and feeds for tool steel. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when handling or cutting stock. Heat treating O1 steel requires controlled furnace temperatures and an oil quench bath - this process should be carried out by personnel trained in metallurgical heat treatment procedures. Allow stock to fully cool and stabilize before performing finish grinding or tight-tolerance operations.
